What to Expect at Your Bridal Makeup Trial/Bridal Preview: Why It's NOT the Final Look.
/Your Bridal Preview/Trial is NOT your final wedding look … but it DOES serve a very important purpose!
You loved your trial.. or maybe you didn’t — either way, here’s the truth. Your makeup trial/Bridal Preview is only the STARTING POINT.
What a Bridal Preview/Trial is actually for.
A Bridal Preview (aka Trial) is a planning session. We’re testing products, shades, and placement - all while working out how the makeup sits on your skin. Think of it like a dress fitting; you try it on, adjust, and it’s PERFECT on the big day.
AND we’re making sure that we vibe together! Your beauty team is the first touch of your entire day. You have to feel comfortable, confident, HEARD, and calm. We are more than your artists- we should feel like friends joining in on the wedding prep. Your trial is the time to form that trust and relationship that will carry into the wedding day, and beyond. (Our brides become our friends, honestly!)
At your appointment we will talk through your vision, try different options, and take notes on what you love AND what you want to change for the big day. No detail is too small to perfect on the big day. But we use your Bridal Preview to determine those details.
The Bridal Preview should give you an idea of your artists style and application - that’s the most important thing to focus on. THEN you can trust that they will bring the perfection on the big day.
Why the wedding day will be different.
You’ll have time to reflect. Many brides look at trial photos and realize they want something different; a softer lip, stronger lash, more definition, whatever it may be. That’s the whole point of the trial - it gives you something to reflect on. You won’t know what you want until you try it on YOU.
The longevity is much different on the wedding day - it has to last 12+ hours! Your trial day may feel like more than the SAME makeup does on the wedding day because you KNOW that day IT NEEDS TO LAST. It just feels right.
There’s magic in the air - plus having your hair done, dress on, flowers in hand - it ALL makes a huge difference to the whole overall look. IT JUST ALL GOES TOGETHER. It’s not your trial in sweats with a claw clip in your hair. Plus, your natural happiness TRULY shines through on the wedding morning.
We’ve done this before! After a Bridal Preview, we’ve learned your skin a little bit. As your MUA we will also reflect back to see what we want to see differently in your wedding photos. Placement of product, your skin reactions, your eye shape - all the details that WE notice help us to perfect the final look.
How to get the most out of your Bridal Preview/Trial.
Bring inspiration pictures. Your inspiration pics VS your makeup may be two different things. But they help us find the starting point to understand what YOU like/gravitate towards. Maybe it’s not the actual eyeshadow on the picture that you like, but you like how it goes from light to dark and opens up her eye. Or maybe you like how pink the blush is on HER face, but your coloring is different. Let’s look together and talk through each detail! (Or sometimes it can be a picture of just a pretty girl and we figure out that you actually hate her makeup - lol it’s true!)
Dress the part. Try to wear white or ivory. If your dress is strapless, find something with an open neckline to wear to your appointment. Bring a photo of your dress/hair inspiration so we can envision the whole picture with you.
Take photos in different lighting. If you’ve ever scrolled IG, you know that lighting is everything.
Live in it. Wear it as long as you can after your appointment. Go to your pilates class, meet the girls for happy hour, force your fiance on a date night. Test the longevity so we know what we need to make last!
COMMUNICATE - GIVE HONEST FEEDBACK. This is the most important point!! Your MUA WANTS YOU TO BE HAPPY. So tell us - talk to us - be honest. We can change anything, makeup isn’t the same for every single client. Our main job is to tailor the look to YOU. So let us work collaboratively to perfect every. single. detail. Trust me, that’s all we want!
What happens after the Bridal Preview/Trial Appointment?
I will send you a full recap going over what we did AND what we want to change/focus on. I refine the plan; tweaking shades, adjusting intensity, and noting every detail. I always ask for your recap as well - let’s make sure we’re on the same page. On your wedding day, I will recreate the look with all the adjustments and details we’ve discussed - it will feel like you, only polished to perfection!
The bottom line: it’s the beginning of a collaborative process. Your Bridal Preview is just the beginning to a beautiful relationship!
